Minimum wages in Brazil are far below ideal. At least that's what the July monthly price survey from the European Union's Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Research (Dieese) shows. Based on the data collected, the salary to support a family of four should be 6.388,55. Currently 1.212 reais.
The monthly survey shows that the ideal value of basic spending needs to be 5,27 times greater than the national minimum standard. 6.527,67 reais in June. The slight drop was related to slower inflation in Brazil.

Now, the minimum wage in Brazil is not below ideal. With each new study of Diesse, we see that the difference between what is true and what is necessary will only become more pronounced over time.
The authorities considered the prices of basic food baskets in the Brazilian capital. Nine of the 17 people surveyed noticed an increase in the cost of basic foods in June.
To be able to buy products from the basic basket, Brazilian workers who earn a minimum wage must work around 120 hours and 37 minutes.
According to Diess, the study took into account the constitutional provisions on salaries, the amount that the government determines is sufficient to cover the expenses of a small family. This includes food; House; health; education; clothing; hygiene; transport; retirement and leisure.
But it is the basic basket that guides the investigation. The highest value in July was in São Paulo at 760,45 reais. The seven cities with high property prices are: Vitória (1,14%); El Salvador (0,98%); Brasília (0,80%); Recife (0,70%); Campo Grande (0,62%); Belo Horizonte (0,51%) and Belém (0,14%).
Even so, between June and July, the prices of basic food baskets fell slightly in some capitals, namely: Natal (-3,96%); João Pessoa (-2,40%); Fortaleza (-2,37%) and São Paulo (-2,13%).
