Paralympic Games reveal 2028 Olympic candidates

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced this Tuesday (2) that 33 sports have signed up to be part of the Los Angeles (USA) 2028 Paralympic Games program. According to the entity, this is a record number. The definitions for the selected sports will be announced at the end of January 2023.
The list includes 22 sports for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (France). The other 11 sports are arm wrestling, climbing, football for cerebral palsy (PC, top 7 football), golf, karate, dancing, wheelchair football (also known as power football), sailing, surfing, wheelchair handball wheels and seated beach volleyball. Two of them (PC Soccer and Sailing) sought to return to the project after leaving the project after the 2016 edition in Rio de Janeiro. Others hope to make their debut at the event.

“Receiving a record 33 entries demonstrates the growing physical strength of the Paralympic movement. Our goal is to create a competitive and engaging program that showcases the diversity of the sport. The Paralympic Games are the world’s most transformative event, we firmly believe that Los Angeles 2028 will be a game-changer in terms of visibility, profile and impact,” said Collen Wrenn, director of games delivery, in an IPC statement.
The Los Angeles Paralympic Games will be held from August 15 to 27, 2028. The Paris Olympics will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
