Spanish prosecutors ask Neymar for two years in prison

A Spanish prosecutor has called for a two-year prison sentence for Brazilian striker Neymar in a case of misappropriation of funds opened against the player and his agents over his 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona, a court document released on Friday showed. fair (29).
The prosecutor also asked for five years in prison for the then president of Barcelona, Sandro Rosell, accused of corruption and fraud, and a fine of 8,4 million euros (the equivalent of R$44,5 million) for the Spanish club.

The trial of the case, in which Santos and the player's family company, N&N, are also accused, is expected to begin on October 17 in Barcelona, said DIS, a Brazilian investment group that initiated the action, in a statement on Wednesday (27).
DIS, which held part of Neymar's transfer rights when the player joined Barcelona in 2013, claims it received less money than it was entitled to following the transfer.
The court document released this Friday (29) alleges that Barcelona began negotiations in 2011 with the player, paying him 40 million euros (R$212 million) to guarantee his transfer when his contract with Santos expired in 2014 and , thus, preventing other clubs from signing him.
The court said prosecutors were asking for a two-year prison sentence “for the crime of business corruption”, as well as a three-year ban on conducting business and a fine of 10 million euros (R$53 million).
Neymar denies the allegations, but lost an appeal to the Spanish Supreme Court in 2017, paving the way for a trial.
Rosell has also previously denied any wrongdoing. His representatives did not respond to requests for comment.
